Well for me, this next week marks the start of the kick-off to the fall tv shows. Yes, I know that many shows have already started but my anticipation for one particular show’s return, that started last fall, is very high. I am counting down the days until Fringe returns!

Now if you have been living under a rock and haven’t watched Fringe, you don’t know what you are missing! Go program it into your dvr now. And then come back and read why you just did that. What are you doing…go program it, NOW!

Ok, your back now. Fringe is a television series (co-created by J. J. Abrams, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci) that mixes a bit of science, a lot of science fiction, well placed dry comic humor, with a splash of conspiracy theory in for good measure.

The show for the most part takes place in the Boston, Massachusetts area but often leads to locations around the United States. If my memory serves me correct, I believe one or two episodes had an international twist as well. With a team that must work under the watchful eye of Homeland Security the show gets it’s name because of the way “fringe” science is used to solve and deal with the strange and quite often shocking events in the show. My draw to the show is that it does hark back to some of it’s predecessors in the same genre, The Twilight Zone (the classic black and white) and The X-Files. I would have to say though that for me the writers of Fringe have done what past screenwriters of those other said shows did well but have done a much more superb job in building characters that draw the audience member into their chaotic and strange world. One that I’m looking forward watching every Thursday night!

Recently, in leading up to this coming weeks season premier, Fox aired rebroadcast of some of last seasons shows. Unlike some reintroductions of shows that networks do, where there isn’t any point to watching the show for long time viewers, Fox did something ingenious. They introduced a Twitter interface that allowed some audience viewers to tweet with a few of the cast and support members of the show while watching the rebroadcast. This was especially interesting to me for two reasons. The first one being that I love twitter and I believe it is here to stay. Second, it was confirmed by Fox that the series of symbols that is shown before commercial breaks is a code/message of things to come. A quick search after watching the show confirmed this. One blog that has a well put together entry on this is by Julian Sanchez. What will the Fringe Glyph Cipher reveal this season? You’ll have to watch for yourself to find out.

Ok, enough about Fringe. Here are shows am I interested in this fall in no particular order. And no, I don’t have the DVR set to record any of them, yet!

Accidentally on Purpose

FlashForward

Glee – Kelly twisted my arm on this one. Well not really, but she did watch the pilot, told me it was good and now I’m excited about the show! And I lied…this one is programed already.

Hank

Shark Tank – Already watching this and it too is programmed. Dang it. There goes my credibility!? I love watching the many entrepreneurs demonstrate their products/ideas and negotiate either to their demise or to their benefit. I believe like most “reality” tv shows a lot is edited out but I think there are some good business, marketing, and negotiation bits that can be learned. So, for now I’ll be watching Shark Tank for awhile. Thanks Mark Burnett!

So in closing, that’s it for my personal list of tv shows that I’m looking forward to watching. What are you going to be watching this fall? Do you have an recommendations of shows? I’d especially like to hear all of your thoughts on what you think this season of Fringe has in store! *with a lisp* Let the theories…I mean series begin!
