domingo rogers: Capturing Life in the Fullest

Movie Review: Devil (2010)

Have you ever found yourself having a great day and just want to have a good scare to end it?  You know, that feeling that you just want to sit down with your favorite snack and hope that the movie that you are about to watch is going to make you look around the room one last time before you turn off the light as you go to bed!  Maybe it’s just me – Ha!  Anyway I had that hankering last night so I made a last minute run to Blockbuster to take advantage of two of the five exchanges that we had with our Blockbuster by Mail subscriptions this month.   There I eagerly exchanged Diary of a Whimpy Kid (a 2 out of 5 stars) with Devil, from producer M. Night Shyamalan.

Once I got home with my movie(s)…I also rented Knight and Day…I sat down and got ready for a suspenseful scary movie.  What I ended up watching was a good movie but definitely not something that had me jumping in my seat.  Rather I was drawn into an interesting story line that had some “clincher” moments but made me wanting more in the fright factor.  Compared to some of Night’s other movies, I would say this was head and shoulders over Lady in the Water and the Village and just a bit shy of the story telling experience of The Sixth Sense.   My summarization:  Devil is a great movie to watch and one that I would encourage anyone to watch.  Just go into the movie looking for a physiological thriller versus a fright factor movie.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
